House of the Rising Sun Challenge

Announcing the House of the Rising Sun Musical Challenge!

Send in your own version of this great American lament via a link in the Comments section. And, please, no Utubes. Also please send in any (short) literary pieces inspired by The House of the Rising Sun and/or the subject of brothels in general.

Here is Bumba’s entry – which I did in A minor using a pick and the Animals progression.

(And if you think it’s easy to hold a pick and an Animals progression at the same time with or without whistling Dixie, well, you have another thing coming!)

As with all the Bumbasongs presented here, the hope is that you will sing along. As you can see, or rather hear, I need help! Vocalists wanted!

Author: Bumba

Shown on a recent visit to the Big Apple, Bumba has written two literary novels and has recorded two CD soundtrack albums to accompany them. Check it out on Bumba Books.

  1. Thank you. That was terrific. I didn’t listen to the Tommy Emanuel yet, but I heard your rendition and it’s terrific. I’ve been meaning to ask you how you became so fluent in the American music. Really, you have that song down, as you do so many others. Anyhow, thank you for contributing – which is what I hope other people would do too (sort of like your Frizz and Flckr challenges). All the best.

      1. Perfect. Worked perfectly on my home computer. Don’t know anything about house of the rising sun, but enjoyed listening to that just now. Relaxing.

        1. Glad you liked it. It’s a very well-known folk song – a #1 hit rocknroll version by the Animals in the 60’s. It’s a very old american folk song.

  2. Ok, I’m not sure if this is playing right, you said no YouTube links so how about just a title, “Sundown” Gordon Lightfoot.

    1. Sorry, I didn’t set up the link correctly for people to send in stuff. I wanted to hear you try to sing the song! And I’m sure you do that one well. Anyhow….That Gordon Lightfoot song definitely is one of his good ones.
