I wrote this one over thirty years ago. I still like to play it. It’s called Desert Wind and I wrote it after the first time I visited Israel.
One day I took a walk through the mountains in my heart
I heard the sound of the desert wind
Calling, calling home to me
I recorded this song on the Up in the Bronx and Down in LA CD, the one that accompanies the celebrated Up in the Bronx novel.

if you ever change your mind, about leaving Israel behind …
your book (and music), comparing three countries’ mood is great!
Frizz,
I put a version of Bringin it on Home to Me on the Soundcloud site for you to hear.
Beautiful. I have a thing for places, and knowing that a piece of art has as its inspiration some location often adds an extra layer of poignancy for me. Are those your photos, and if so where were they taken? Yes, I know, Israel, but it’s a big country. (Actually, maybe that should read ‘county,’ but it’s still big enough).
Those are photographs of the Negev that I took from Google. Thank you for your comment, which was very kind. I was referring to the Negev but had nophotos myself.
Wow great images, and nice song! Like all! 🙂
Greetings
This is such beautiful song, Stephen. One you want to play over and over again. Thank you for sharing this one.
groetjes, Francina
Yeah, I can hear the influences of both ’60s soul and ’50s-era folk — it would be interesting to hear with a band too.
Maybe. I listened to a bit of your band on your blog and you guys are good!
Enjoyed your blog. That song was terrific. I couldn’t comment because of the security screens.
Love the pitch bends on the harmonica…
But your song “Revolution” from the 70’s was prescient… Chase Manhattan… a little revolution (well, almost prescient–didn’t the ‘occupy’ thingy just fizzle out?)
Thanks for listening/visiting. Chase Manhattan owned half of New York City back then and the Rockefeller family personally owned much of the rest. Now Chase seems to own even more! They used to have an ad “you have a friend at Chase Manhattan”.
Great listen
Love it! Happy Thanksgiving my friend!
Thanks Jaz. You too!
🙂
Love this.. the harmonica pulls at my heart
Glad you liked it!
lovely…
Thank you
30 years?!!!!! Beautiful song Stephen. It has a very familiar [to me] melancholy feeling.
Thank you!
🙂
The tune is like a Sam Cooke song, although when I wrote it I wasn’t consciously aware of that. Glad you liked it, Marina.
