Fighting a Losing Battle But Having a Lot of Fun Trying to Win

Fighting a Losing Battle But Having a Lot of Fun Trying to Win by Brownie Mc Gee is one of his greatest compositions, and certainly one of my favorites. It features a somewhat sophisticated blues progression together with some wonderful lyrics, and anyhow, here it is again. I’ve noticed that my posts of this song are almost popular – which means every blue moon somebody clicks on it. I think they identify with the phrase “losing battle”. Likewise, my most popular post that by far gets the most clicks is Pete Seeger’s  Oh Had I a Golden Thread – which I imagine receives clicks because it mentions the word gold. Such is the extent of my popularity. Keep on playin that country music is what I say. And keep on fighting that losing battle. Register voters. March in protest.

Fighting A Losing Battle But Having a Lot of Fun Trying to Win

Fighting A Losing Battle But Having a Lot of Fun Trying to Win is one of my very favorite songs. And I hope you enjoy it too. Written by the great Brownie Mc Gee it has a marvelous lyric, an exquisite tune, an interesting blues progression …. and, well I’ve always enjoyed singing it, so here it is.

You know it’s hard to love another man’s girlfriend
Can’t see her when you want to
Gotta see her when you can
I may be fighting a losing battle but having a lot of fun trying to win

I thought it over these two points of view
You know a one-way lovin just ain’t no good for two
I may be fighting a losing battle but having a lot of fun trying to win

I watch the sun come up and I watch it fade away
All I ever seem to have are these sleepless nights and endless days

I asked my woman: should I go away?
Your man wants me to leave, do you want me to stay?
I may be fighting a losing battle but having a lot of fun trying to win

Here’s the song with Maybank joining in.
